Wilde Saudeck Geotop

63679 Schotten, Deutschland

The unusual name "Wild Saudeck" is given to a rock formation north of Schotten-Sichenhausen. On the eastern slope of the Rehberger, which rises above the valley like a volcanic cone, there is a group of impressive rock cliffs. Geology: While the Rehberg itself consists of basanite with small inclusions of olivine and clinopyroxene and a fine-grained matrix, the cliffs of the Wilde Saudeck are made of a pyroclastic breccia. The tuff breccia has a thickness of up to 18 m. Only faint stratification can be seen. Since May 2012, this geotope has been equipped with an information portal. Accessibility: The geotope is located about 2.5 km southeast of the Hoherodskopfs on a forest road.
