Fachwerkkirche Ilsdorf

This church was first mentioned in the middle of the 16th century; at that time its location was in Bernsfeld, a district of Mücke. The purely outwardly proud sight of the half-timbering reveals what hard work it was to build such a little church with primitive tools about 400 years ago. The church was built by the parish or the church box, according to an old legend. It was not until around the year 1750 that the bourgeois community was obliged to maintain its church in construction and improvement. Repairs were necessary from time to time and were carried out according to urgency and extent. In 1953 the church underwent a remodeling. Even before the church was moved to Ilsdorf, the building burden was transferred to the Hessian Regional Church in Darmstadt. In the spring of 1983, the regional church was of the opinion that the church should be moved to Ilsdorf, since there had been a newly built church in Bernsfeld since 1972. On April 27, 1983, the groundbreaking ceremony took place; after a good two and a half years of construction, the first service in Ilsdorf could be held on Christmas Eve 1985 in the old church, which was new for the people of Ilsdorf. The furnishing of the interior of the church had to be redesigned, since the former furniture had other uses. Thus, the pews and chairs were newly purchased, altar objects and communion jugs as well as baptismal items were the content of the procurement. The Lutheran parish of Ilsdorf had, in addition to the small things, also a large purchase to make, namely the purchase of an organ. After inspection of a baroque organ from 1750 it was decided to purchase it. It is an eight-register organ with pedal and one manual; the wooden facade shows the splendid impression of the construction of that time on the three independent pipe supports; the total number of pipes is 459 made of wood and metal. Another task was the production of a church bell; the casting of this bell was done in the presence of 191 Ilsdorf parishioners on 10.12.1985 at the Rincker company in Sinn. This hour of casting will remain in the memory of all llsdorf participants for quite a long time. The participants were all amazed at how the creation of a bell proceeds. The weight of the bell is 52 kg and it is tuned to the tone b. After the completion of the construction, the church was officially opened on 23.3.86. The church was supervised by Dipl. Ing. P. Weyrauch and Dipl. Ing. H. Fiedler. In the meantime, more than 11 years have passed; from the point of view of the citizens of llsdorf, one can say that the construction of this church has been a complete success. Many llsdorf parishioners confirm this with their attendance at church services, which are held every 14 days by Pastor Manfred Günther.
