Dark sky, many stars - astronomy in the Vogelsberg region
Off the beaten track in the remotely situated areas of the Vogelsberg region, far away from larger towns, cities, industry and motorways, there are less of the usual evening events.
Yet...on every clear night there is actually quite an event going on – an event that’s no longer offered in any German city: the live appearance of thousands of sparkling stars across the firmament. All year round, astronomers can marvel at the wide band of the Milky Way, our neighbouring galaxy of Andromeda, the constellation of the Pleiades…
Children who grow up in cities have never seen anything like it!

Observatory Sternenwelt Vogelsberg
The geographical location and the light conditions are highly favourable for astronomy in the parish of Feldatal. Therefore an observatory for amateur stargazers was built there, close to the little village of Stumpertenrod. In every new moon period there is one evening, where the observatory is open for the public and you can get a guided tour. At least 4 times a year there are starparties of several days (and nights), where astronomers from all over Germany meet and camp on the area next to their own telescopes. You are even most welcome to your own "astronomy camp": bring your telescope, rent the area for a few nights for a small fee and enjoy the splendour of the sparkling stars!
By arrangement you can as well book an information evening anytime throughout the year. For more information and accompanying photos please visit: www.sternenwelt-vogelsberg.de
