Roll over Vogelsberg - cycling in the region

The Vogelsberg region is ideal not only for pleasure cyclists but also for racing and mountain bike fans. Enjoy the quiet of the unspoilt contryside and let yourself unwind, far from the noise and stress of everyday life.
Particularly popular are rail-trail cycle tours. Moderate ascents, enjoyable downhill runs, a wide asphalt path and clear signposting are a delight for cyclists who simply want to travel and take in the scenery.
The Volcano Cycle Trail, which follows the route of the former ‘Oldenwaldbahn’ and the ‘Südbahn’ Cycle Trail, which runs down into the Kinzig Valley, offer everything the heart desires. The new Hessian Railway Cycle Trail, which was opened in 2009, links these trails with the River Main Cycle Trail and cycling trails in the Rhön region, and runs for 245 km from Hanau to Bad Hersfeld.

Cycle trails (english description)

vulcano cycle trail (94 km)
Stretching for 94 km, the Volcano Cycle Trail winds along the old Oberwaldbahn railway line, through the woods and meadows of Central Europe’s largest extinct shield volcano. The view of nature, small villages and little towns is probably the same as the one etched in the memory of railway passengers up to the mid-seventies.

Hessian Rail Cycle Trail (245 km)
“Wonderful countryside” is the unanimous opinion of everyone who has ridden along this trail. Thanks to the route along the Volcano Cycle Trail, the ‘Milseburgradweg’, which follows the line of another disused railway, through the Ulster Valley and along the Solztal Cycle Trail, the Hessian Rail Cycle Trail is a delight for even the most relaxed cyclists.
